Wow. The pictures at the top of the article are really heart-breaking. Whenever these kinds of accidents occur, it really serves as a lesson for the whole world to learn from. My condolences go out to the passengers who have passed and all who were involved.
I’m sure there will be more articles published as more details are revealed, however the article in its entirety was very vague and lacked exact statistics. The author seems to be basing key facts entirely from foreign newspapers. He used a lot of diction such as “reportedly” and “about” to indicate his ambiguity about the complete story.  The author also cites the Spanish train company and the Spanish newspaper “El PaĆs” as sources repeatedly throughout the article. I’m curious as to how various countries share information and manage news correspondence among each other. Nevertheless, I still appreciate the author’s attempt to inform the reader of whatever information he could find out. I’m sure most articles are written in this style that is unassuming and careful not to make any strong statements when writing about highly recent news.
I have to wonder why the train was traveling over TWICE the speed limit. I’m not sure if this kind of speeding is something that occurs often or if it was a pure accident. The author briefly mentions that terrorism might have played a role, but that is not verified yet. Accidents like this only prove that we can never be completely safe and that anything can happen.

  1. I saw the images and they were quite disturbing. I was also wondering why the train was going twice its speed. It makes me very curious as to why and how the train got to such a dangerously, high speed. A lesson should be learned from this and made aware to the rest of the world. This is yet another tragedy that could have been prevented. We just have to be more careful especially when one is responsible for the lives of others.

  2. I like how you actually have input on the article instead of simply summarizing the events of the article. I have to agree with you on this one. Either the conductor is crazy or he was involved in some act of terrorism. No matter what the reason may be, there is no reason why he should have been going that fast. I offer my condolences to the families who have lost their loves ones that tragic night.

  3. I have seen the article myself and even debated writing about it for my article. The pictures are very heartbreaking and it is just another tragedy that should not have occurred. It is more innocent lives lost.
You did a good job of stating what the article was about in the first paragraph and you also had good commentary questioning what happened and the reason why the train was traveling so fast. So good job

  4. The images that are shown of the train derailing brought chills as I imagined this actually occurring. Your commentary was mainly focusing on your opinions and your own thoughts about this article which, in my opinion, was well done. I agree that the fact that he was traveling twice the speed of the accepted speed limit to be quite disturbing. It's true that we can never be completely safe. My heart reaches out for the 80 lives lost and the numerous injured. Overall, you had a strong opinion throughout your commentary; well done.
